Dubai, Aug 13 (BAN/CD): It has been 65 days since Sri Lankan woman Rohini Perera has gone missing from her home in Sharjah, Khaleej Times reports.
Her 63 year old husband, Madhusudhanan told Khaleej Times that the mentally unstable Sri Lankan woman and mother of five grown-up children ran away from the villa near Al Kuwaiti Hospital on June 9 and has not been seen since.
The Kerala native Madhusudhanan further said that he does not want to believe they have hit a dead end and that she is alive somewhere.
There has been no breakthrough in the search for the woman even though the family has filed a police complaint.
"The Sharjah Police have been doing everything possible to find her. After reports in the media about her case, I have got a few calls from people giving some leads. But in the end, it all drew a blank," he said, according to Khaleej Times.
When she left home, 58-year-old Rohini Perera was wearing a purple salwar kameez and was without her slippers or mobile phone. Her husband claimed that she was taking medication for her mental illness, too.
The family, including their five children, had recently legalised their status in the UAE during the last amnesty declared by the UAE. Earlier they had been living without valid documents. The media attention that the family had received started to take a toll on Rohini’s mental illness and she started to show symptoms again.
Madhusudhanan said that his wife started to say that she was a burden on the family and wanted to leave.
After she started showing suicidal tendencies, they locked her up in a room. Early morning on June 9 the window of her room was found open and she had escaped through the window, they assumed.
"It is Eid holidays and everyone is out traveling. I am sure she is somewhere in the UAE. My children are going through trauma as there is no news about their mother. After almost 30 years of uncertainty, we had just started living in peace when this mishap happened," said Madhusudhanan to Khaleej Times.
