Manchester, July 15: Shree Radha Krishan Mandir, the first temple in Manchester, since its conception in 20th April, 1969, has been a leader for other temples because of its forward thinking;be it in celebrating religious events like Ram Navi, Janam Ashtami; performing rituals like New Year Havan; religious activities with children performing in key events like Ankoot – Diwali celebrations. Our Temple is not only a place of devotion butan institutionto strengthen the religious foundation in our younger generation, keeping them close to our Culture, Religion and Traditionsand guide them in their beliefs.
Over the years, we have celebrated many events in our temple; New Year Havan on 1st of January, seeking God’s blessing at the beginning of the year. Holi, Ram Navi, Janam Ashtami, Radha Ashtami, Hanuman Jayanti, Ganesh Chaturati, Ganesh Visarjan; Geeta Havan, KarvaChauth to name a few. Our children have actively been involved in most of these programs, including performing plays.
The earliest play, performed in November 1980, was based on Ramayana, 35 children from 15 families of our devotees acted in the play. The play was written, directed and produced by devotees themselves. This play was part of Diwali celebration at Wythenshawe Forum, Manchester followed by performances in Brighton and St Helens in July 1981. The energy and enthusiasm of the children participating was commendable.
In 2014, as part of Janam Ashtami celebrations, a play on Lord Krishna was written and directed by our devotees and beautifully performed by children. As a first again, since last couple of years, Geeta Havan is performed by Children in our temple. This enables them to learn the meaning and importance of performing Havan in our lives. We are committed to organise and develop a Children’s Society in way of involving them in various religious activities in past and in future.
Many religious figures have visited our temple and given their blessings to our devotees. We had the honour of hostingParamPujyaMahaMandleshwarGita ManishiSwami Gyananand Ji Maharaj for thesecondconsecutive year in 2018 to enlighten our devotees in Divine GeetaSatsangand Conference on Religious Values and Their Impact on Morden Society. Multi faith speakers took part on the day and they all came togetherand binded on this common platform.
Lord Mayor of Manchester Cllr June Hitchen joined us in preforming Geeta Havan in October 2018. Our Shaster Ji explained to her the significance of the havan and the mantars. This was yet another step towards bringing harmony and understanding between different faiths.
Over the years, with the support of our Trustees; Executive Committee and our devotees, our temple has become an epicentre of Knowledge, Culture and Religious activities. It has been a great honour for me to be part of the Executive Committee for the last two years and now to be part of the Golden Jubilee celebrations. I wish our Temple to prosper and flourish for many more years to come.
