Colombo, July 11 (BAN/ AD): On Wednesday Coast Guard after receiving lead from India has intercepted two boats carrying banned drugs from Karachi, Pakistan. As per coast guards they followed lead received from Indian security agencies.
Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) India had shared a specific input with information about two boats carrying banned drugs from Karachi to Sri Lanka. On receiving information Lankan coast guards acted immediately and prevented drug trade.
According to Indian intelligence agencies, this drug business is a major source of income for Pakistan ISI and they use this in terror funding. The funds through such trade are also used to fund extremist ideology in Sri Lanka. As sea route is considered safest passage for drug trade, It is mostly done through private ships. For long time now Lankan and Indian agencies have been working closely to prevent drug trade.
