London 11 July 2019 - Mercedes has revealed the latest version of its performance hatchback with up to 421bhp from just a 2.0-litre turbocharged four-cylinder engine. That's for the A45 S version but even the non-S gets 387bhp.
The same drivetrains sit in the A45's sister car, the four-door CLA 45 and CLA 45 S. Having the world's most powerful four cylinder engine in its A Series range mated to an 8-speed dual clutch fast-shifting automatic transmission endows the new cars with stunning performance.
Thankfully grip is assured through 4MATIC all-wheel-drive system featuring AMG Torque Control which includes a new rear differential with two multidisc clutches for each wheel to best distribute the torque.
Talking of torque there's 354lb ft available with 369lb ft for the S. This endows the A45 with a 0-62mph time of 4.0 seconds - just 3.9 for the S version. The CLA is only a tenth slower at 4.1 and 4.0 respectively.
Both cars get wider grilles, wider wings, flared wheel arches, reinforced bodysheels, sports exhaust (with modes to switch it to loud!), plus all the usual AMG extras you'd expect.
