London 5 July 2019 - This is the new De Tomaso P72 debuting and being demonstrated at the Goodwood Festival of Speed this week.
It's a retro-inspired car drawing on the style and character of 1960s Le Mans racers. It features strikingly curvaceous design that amplifies the characteristics of the classic racing cars.
Deespite being the spiritual successor to the 1965 De Tomaso P70 prototype race car, the P72 is very much a road-going luxury exotic. The interior features an exquisitely created cabin similar in detail and styling to those found in the Pagani supercars.
The sports car marque has been bought and revived by Hong Kong-based TeamVenture, which also owns sports car maker Apollo, and as such the new P72 is based o the same platform as the Apollo Intensa Emozione which was revealed two years ago. Both are designed by Joe Wong.
Launching the car at the sensational Goodwood event, De Tomaso has confirmed that the just 72 examples of the new car will be made at a price of £662,000.
Whilst the car shown has a manual transmission, no other details about the powertrain have been revealed. However since the original P70 famously had a Shelby V8, it would be truly evocative to see them fit the 760bhp Ford Mustang Shelby GT500 V8 in this voluptuous vehicle!
Wow this is amazing
It is quite incredible!
