London, July 02 (BAN): ‘The world today is the way it is because of us. The power to change the world into something that we want it to be also lies within us.”- BK Shivani.
Many like me were transformed on Sunday evening within two hours of Sister Shivani’s company at Wembley SSE Arena. BK Shivani is a very well known spiritual mentor who started practising Raja Yoga meditation with the Brahma Kumaris, a global spiritual movement dedicated to personal transformation and awakening, in 1996. It was established in 1937 in pre partitioned India by Prajapita Brahma Baba who brought the women to the forefront and today it is them who are the forerunners of Raja Yoga, yoga of the mind. The yoga retreat centres are present all over the world. In the UK, one can find Raja Yoga courses being offered at most cities in the UK, seven of them alone being in London. You can find the nearest centre by logging onto their website. BK Shivani is also the face of her hit TV talk show in India ‘Awakening with Brahma Kumaris’ which led to her meteoric international fame.
British Asia News had the privilege to speak to Sister Jayanti, the European Director who plays a principal role in overseeing the Brahma Kumaris’ activities in the UK and Europe. Sister Jayanti has been a Brahma Kumari for over 40 years and has closely worked with DadiJanki who came to London to spread the word about the association in 1971. Today they exist in over 120 countries. Interestingly, Sister Jayanti talks about a connection between the consciousness and our environment, and believes that once human beings can accept their needs and reach a sense of satisfaction within themselves, that would ease a lot out on our environment and make it a better place to live in; a lot of the problems can be taken care of. On being asked how easy it is to change the consciousness, she replies, “In a snap.” Contrary to popular belief, Sister Jayanti tells us that it is the youth that are more open to this than the others and it is them who actually advocate change, most activists being young people who are leading the way today.
The talk opened with a beautiful dance and song, which taught us to be ourselves. This gave way to BK Shivani taking over with her divine messages and being the pilot who led us towards a higher dimension of peace and harmony. BK Shivani strongly advocates that it is our thoughts that determine the world we want around us, “When I change, my world change.” Nowadays, almost all of us reach out for the phone even before we open our eyes. “The first hour of the morning, which is of utmost importance to us, should be used in charging our minds for the rest of the day rather than indulging in violence filled news or the unrelated social media; it is harmful for our emotional diet”, she reminds us. “It should be spent in silence to create a shift, not just within us but will translate into a shift within the world.” She calls this as the metamorphosis of the Earth.
Today we are living in a world where we have created an energy where we say stress, fear, anger is normal; competition is a way of living. But we have to now think of a world where peace is normal, unconditional love and acceptance is not just a word that is to be read and forwarded to our friends as ‘quote of the day’. Feelings of such nature seem very distant to obtain but it is all in our minds and it is our thoughts that make will help us make the change. Sister Shivani says, “Paradise on earth is a distant dream and together you and I will create it.”
This year the Government of India awarded BK Shivani with the highest civilian honour for women in India - the Nari Shakti (‘Woman Power’) Award, which comes as a huge achievement in becoming an inspiration to people of all ages of life. Sitting by herself on the stage, Sister Shivani exuberated an innate aura that had the power to transform the lives of thousands sitting in the arena. There was a sense of stillness that one could feel and become calmer in her presence. She is not preachy but speaks to give a sense of feeling great about one self. Within a couple of hours, she initiated a change in the lives of so many present. London was the second part of her European leg, after which she was due to address people in Manchester; Leicester being her first. Her profound life lessons will be remembered and practised by many all over the world. Her entire talk was live streamed and can be found on the Brahma Kumaris’ YouTube channel:
