London: The United Nations World Health Day, observed globally on the 7th April, will be celebrated by Virendra Sharma, MP Labour through a health and wellbeing event in Southall on the 5th April. This would be an opportunity to engage with specialists in the wellbeing sector, get free taster sessions and meet the local MP Virendra Sharma at the event between 12pm to 3pm at Ramgarhia Hall, 159 The Broadway, Southall, UB1 1LR.
The event aims to raise awareness on mental health issues and encourage residents from Ealing and Southall to lead a healthy life through meditation and yoga. There will be free mini-health check-ups and participants can avail of free consultations with specialists from local charities and community groups with interests in public health issues.
For children, there will be fun football and cricket taster sessions between 3:30pm and 5pm, along with fresh and tasty fruit bags and soft drinks sponsored by McDonalds.
"I'm delighted to be hosting this special Health and Wellbeing community event in partnership with some of Ealing and Southall's wonderful health charities and community groups," said MP Virendra Sharma.
"There's no better way to celebrate the United Nations World Health Day, than by raising awareness of mental health and healthy living in my constituency. Numerous studies have demonstrated the power of yoga and meditation to dramatically improve mental and physical wellbeing," he said.
The event will be filled with free mindful meditation sessions at the Ramharhia Hall, a taster yoga session at 2pm, a mindfulness meditation session at 2:30pm as well as mini-health check-ups by One You Ealing. The highlight of the event will be the interaction possibilities with leading experts and specialists working within the health and wellness sectors in the community, including big banners like Age UK, Diabetes UK, Help Your Health, Health Watch Ealing, Southall Community Alliance, Ealing CVS and GOSAD.
"Now, more than ever, we will need to remember to relax and take some time out of our increasingly busy schedules. This community event will be a fantastic opportunity for you to try some free meditation and yoga sessions, have a mini-health check and enjoy some light refreshments and snacks.
"And for children, I've also organised some fun football and cricket taster sessions, which will be run by the London Tigers in Spikes Bridge Park from 3:30pm to 5pm, the same day. I am really looking forward to seeing you on the 5th April to be a part of this health campaign," said Sharma.
The World Health Day is celebrated on the 7th April by all member states of the World Health Organisation (WHO), started first in 1950. It is an opportunity by the WHO to draw worldwide attention to a subject of major importance to global health each year. The day is recognised by governments and non-governmental organisations working with interest in public health issues.
