Colombo, Oct 09 (BAN/ AD): On Wednesday the bail granted by Colombo Magistrate's Court to Inspector General of Police Pujith Jayasundara and Former Defense Secretary Hemasiri Fernando was cancelled by the Colombo High Court and also ordered their arrest immediately.
Colombo High Court Judge Vikum Kaluarachchi issued the order deciding on a revision petition filed by the Attorney General against granting bail to Jayasundara and Fernando. The High Court Judge further ordered that the suspects Hemasiri Fernando and Pujith Jayasundera be remanded.
Inspector General of Police Pujith Jayasundara and Former Defense Secretary Hemasiri Fernando are accused of failing to prevent the Easter Sunday attacks despite having prior knowledge of the attack. They are charged on criminal negligence and murder.
On July 9th they were granted bail by Colombo Chief Magistrate Lanka Jayaratne stating that there was insufficient evidence to substantiate the murder charges against them. The bail review application was submitted by Attorney General on July 18th.
