World premiere of all-new fully electric Porsche Taycan

London 6 September 2019 - This is the game-changer from Porsche, the car that is set to kill off Tesla once and for all - the all-new Porsche Taycan - the German sports car company's first fully-electric sports saloon.

And it will be known as the Taycan Turbo and Turbo S - which is surprising considering it doesn't have a turbo charger! It does of course have power - and a LOT of it! The flagship Turbo S will have 560kW - equivalent to 760bhp, and the Turbo offers 500kW (680bhp).

That means the Turbo S will accelerate from rest to 62mph in just 2.8 seconds (Turbo in 3.2 seconds) and boasts a range of 275 miles (279 miles for the Turbo). Both will hit a top speed of 161mph.

They drive all four wheels with two electric motors one each on the front and rear axles. There's a two-speed transmission installed on the rear axle. And of course the Taycan gets all the usual Porsche performance electronics such as active suspension, dynamics chassis control and torque vectoring control.

The Taycan is the first production vehicle with a system voltage of 800 volts instead of the usual 400 volts for electric cars. This means in just over five minutes, the battery can be recharged using direct current (DC) from the high-power charging network for a range of up to 62 miles (according to WLTP). The charging time for five to 80 per cent SoC (state of charge) is 22.5 minutes under ideal conditions.

It features a super low drag figure of just 0.22 Cd, a glass-effect rear Porsche logo, and unusually a leather-free option for the interior. Instead the interior is made from innovative recycled materials. And there are two luggage compartments - the front accomodates 81 litres and the rear 366 litres.

The Porsche Taycan Turbo S is priced from £138,826 and the Porsche Taycan Turbo from £115,858 and are available to order now at Porsche Centres in the UK and Ireland. First customer deliveries are anticipated from January 2020. Less powerful versions will also be made available by the end of next year.
